Sunday Worship (May 5th)

This week we will begin a new worship series based on the book of Ephesians.  The Apostle Paul wrote the letter, to the people in Ephesus, to help them see the big picture and understand the larger story they found themselves in.  Today, as we read Ephesians, we also realize that we are a part of a bigger story.  It is a story that unites us together as we look to Christ, the author and perfected of our faith, who has called us out of the darkness and into the light to work in unity with one another to build up the Church.

Certainly, our lives are made up of stories.  There are good parts to our stories, as well as, not-so-good parts.  Nevertheless, each part of our story is essential and reveals the presence of our loving God.

I've heard it said that Many people live their lives with the same feeling you get when arriving twenty minutes late to a movie. - The movie has started, the theater is dark, and it's difficult to navigate to your seat.  Once you're in your seat, you try to orient yourself to the movie even though you haven't a clue what is happening on the screen.  You'd ask the person sitting next to you who the good guys are and if there are any villains, but you're aware you're not supposed to talk during a movie.  We know some of the plots because we read the reviews or watched the trailer before we arrived, but we still do not understand what is happening in the movie.  So we continue to watch the screen and look for some clues.  We sense that something wonderful is taking place and yet it all seems so random.

Friends, life is not always a series of well-planned actions.  It's a series of dramatic scenes with a lot of ad-libs sprinkled in between.  The thing that is constant in our life is God's story, and the fact that our stories are the love language that God chooses to work through to help others connect to God.

Come and join in worship this Sunday, as we look at how we are chosen, forgiven, and commissioned, to play a part in God's story.  Because it's true, that we have been created for a purpose.
